Brief Mission Statement
As members of Southside Christian Church, we confess that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of the Living God, and proclaim Him Lord and Savior of
the World. The life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ
is central to our understanding of what it means to be a church. Therefore:
We strive to be inclusive and affirming to all people. We are progressive
in learning the scriptures in relationship to contemporary faith issues.
We are receptive to the needs of individuals, our community, and our environment.
Recognizing that God alone holds all truth, we remain dependent on the
grace, forgiveness and mercy of God as we seek to live faithfully in the
body of Christ. Our purpose as a congregation is to provide an atmosphere
that encourages spiritual worship and growth, and to extend Christ's love
to all people. The Church is the human touch when God seems far away,
therefore, reminding us that God is always there.
Communion
The sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism are central to the faith
and life of the church. The Lord's Supper is celebrated each Sunday and
is the central focus of worship. In the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ), all who believe are invited to share in Holy Communion, for it
is Christ's Table, not our Table. "...in the covenant of love which
binds us to God and one another."
